NCCAA National Softball Championship Kicks Off With a Bang

Written By: Michael Brown, Palm Beach Atlantic University SID

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- As a part of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Softball Championship, all six participating teams paired up with some local youth teams to start the tournament with a cookout and a skills clinic with the youth participants as a part of the annual Christian Service Project. Palm Beach Atlantic University begins their second year of hosting the national tournament.

All participants, around 200 in total, were on hand at the Lake Catherine Sportsplex and were also treated to a complimentary meal provided by Quarterdeck Restaurant and Palm Beach Atlantic University. A wonderful meal of salad, coleslaw, chicken, ribs, and ice cold Pepsi products served all the players and visiting families on hand with great appreciation.

After having gone through about a one-hour skills clinic, the travel league teams, ranging from 8-14 in age, were also able to sit with the college teams and enjoy the meals on hand.

With nearly perfect weather on hand for the first annual event, all teams seemed to enjoy interacting while spreading the love of Christ through athletics.

All Lady Gator players and coaches will be admitted free to the NCCAA National Softball Championships at the Lake Catherine Sportsplex that is set to begin on Thursday at 4 pm. The Sailfish, who are the #2-seed and will take on the winner of #6-seeded Indiana Wesleyan University and #3-seeded Chowan University, will open up at approximately 6 pm. PBA is seeking their first ever NCCAA Championship crown after finishing in second-place last season.

Special thanks to Robert Bellissimo of Quarterdeck Restaurants for providing of the food on hand, also Candy Pittman of Pepsi, and all those who contributed to a memorable first-time event.
