Mindi Prins Honored with Michelle
Akers Award
Over
the past four years the women’s soccer program of Trinity
Christian College has had significant success of which Mindi
Prins has been a major contributor. As a four-year starter
Mindi has helped the program accumulate a record of 77-19-5 in
her career. She has also been instrumental in building one of
the top NCCAA and NAIA teams in the nation, including a No. 1
NCCAA and top 10 NAIA national ranking this season.
This season the
Trolls finished with the best record in the school’s history at
21-1. The senior defender led her team to a 17 shut-outs this
season, giving up only five goals during the regular season and
a total of nine goals to date. With an undefeated 18-0 regular
season and a perfect conference record the team captured their
conference title and for the first-time in the program’s history
advanced to the NAIA national tournament of which they won their
first round game.
Mindi, a
Hudsonville, Michigan native, has participated in the NCCAA
National Tournament twice. In 2005 the Trolls claimed the NCCAA
Championship with Mindi scoring the game winning goal in a 1-0
victory over Trinity International. The team returned to the
national event in 2007 and captured third place. Mindi was named
to the All-Tournament Team in 2005 and has been on the NCCAA
All-American list twice. In addition she is a four-time
recipient of NCCAA All- Region and CCAC First-Team
All-Conference honors and has been on the NAIA All-Region Team
three times and named NAIA All-American Honorable Mention last
year.
Mindi, a
three-year team captain, has been the team MVP for the past
three seasons. As a true team player she has played whatever
position the coach has asked her to. Two years ago she led the
team in scoring, last year she was the captain of the central
midfield, and this season she leads the defensive line. For her
career she has scored 33 goals and had 24 assists and ranks
third in goals and fourth in assists in Trinity’s records book.
In addition to
her leadership on the field, Mindi also excels in the classroom
with a 3.94 overall GPA. She handles the rigors of a nursing
major and has earned Scholar-Athlete honors for the past two
seasons.
In addition to
what Mindi’s has accomplished athletically and academically, she
shines through her leadership, servanthood, and Christian
character. Mindi is a very unselfish player and person, putting
her teammates’ needs above her own. Both on and off the field
she is a servant and is a role model. She is automatically
respected by her peers because of her mature faith and genuine
spirit. She has been a mentor to younger players, a Bible study
leader, and involved in local and international service and
mission projects. She impacts those around her for the better
and displays a Christ-like attitude in all aspects of her life.
