Ken
Hyland, Men's Golf Coach at Malone University,
will be
inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of America’s Hall of Fame
tonight in Las Vegas. Ken graduated from
Malone College in 1969 with a bachelor ‘s degree in history and physical
education and received his master’s degree from the University of Akron
in 1972. While a student at Malone, he became the school’s first
All-American and first National Champion when he captured medalist
honors at the 1969 NAIA National Golf Championship in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Since graduation, he has won the Ohio Public Links Championship along
with many local and club championships.
Ken has been named to the NAIA Golf Hall of Fame (1977), the Malone
Athletics Hall of Fame (1986), and the O.P.G.A. Golf Hall of Fame
(1998), where he is presently serving as the association's president.
He has been named District 22, Mid-Ohio Conference, or American Mideast
Conference Coach of the Year a remarkable 23 times and has coached 18
All-Americans and 68 All-District/All-Conference players. 2010 marked
the second time that Ken has earned the NAIA’s National Coach of the
Year award as he also received the honor in 2000 after leading his team
to its first-ever national golf championship. He has also garnered four
NCCAA National Coach of the Year awards (following each of the Pioneers’
NCCAA National Titles) during his distinguished career.
In addition, he guided the U.S.A. Golf Team to a World Championship and
a gold medal in the World University Games played in Lausanne,
Switzerland.

The Malone men’s and women’s teams
competed at the non-scoring Youngstown State University Invitational
last Friday afternoon and evening as both Pioneer squads turned in some
solid performances, including a first-place finish by two Malone men's
student-athletes -- Lepear Smith in the 60-meter hurdles and Anthony
Lombardi in the high jump (tied for 1st).

The Bethel College Track and Field program
competed at the Indiana Wesleyan indoor Invitational on Saturday and
came away with eight first place finishes and a new school record in the
women’s pole vault. Kate Carr won the pole vault at 3.76m and set
a new Lady Pilot record in the process. Cinamin Green also finished
first in shot put at 13.27. Both of those marks qualified for the NAIA
Indoor Nationals. Dominique Dvojacki was the other first place finish
for the Lady Pilots in the 600m at 1:42.39. Finishing second for Bethel
were Lauren Dudley in the 600m at 1:43.40, Christina Adams in the 1K at
3:25.35, and the DMR team of Leah Schwartz, Dvojacki, Keri Lencke, and
Brittany Fabris at 13:27.93. Finishing in third on the day were Kaila
Stevens in the 400m at 1:00.75, Carli Mast in the 1K at 3:25.91, the 4x4
relay team of Stevens, Irene Kangai, Sam Etter, and Rebecca Wetzig at
4:08.75, and the 4x800 relay team of Dudley, Dvojacki, Fabris, and
Lencke. Finishing in fourth were Kangai in the 400m at 1:01.11, Caitlyn
Ramirez in the triple jump at 10.55, and Fabris in the 1K at 3:31.22.
Rounding out top five finishes on the day was Emilee Simcox in the high
jump at 1.57. Sixth place finishes were turned in by Etter in the 60m
at 8.02 and Ellen Schmeltz in the weight throw at 13.89. Pacing
the way for the men was Calen Boyd who had three first place finishes on
the day. Boyd won the 60m at 6.99, the long jump at 7.04, and the
triple jump at 14.29. Boyd’s marks in the long and triple jumps
qualified him for NAIA Indoor Nationals. Other first place finishes
were turned in by Ahrin Lemacks in the 200m at 23.25 and the 4x800 relay
team of Tim Sipe, Kyle Beutler, Robby Gingerich, and Logan Kimmel at
8:57.99. Kimmel finished fourth in the 1K at 2:50.20 as did the 4x400
relay team of Robby Burns, Talal Maree, Calvin Lewis, and Ivan Dovbak at
3:35.39. Fifth place finishes were turned in by David Foura in the 1K
at 2:51.42, BJ VanderZwaag in the weight throw at 16.09, and Kent
Corsbie in the triple jump at 11.85. Finishing in sixth on the day were
Ryan Carlock in the weight throw at 16.05, Maree in the 400m at 53.51,
and Beutler in the 600m at 1:27.58.

The
North Greenville University men's track and field team began its
inaugural season on a high note posting one victory and numerous Top 5
finishes on Wednesday afternoon at the Gamecock Indoor Invitational on
the campus on the University of South Carolina. Competing against
the University of South Carolina, Mars Hill and Belmont Abbey among
others, Jacob Simms claimed a win in the 800 yard run with a time of
2:05:61. Simms was followed closely by teammate Ravon Wamer who finished
second with a time of 2:06:66. North Greenville continued its
success in the 400 yard dash as Lucas Freeman (55.88) finished in second
place and Kylan Steinert (58.28) placed fourth. In the one mile run,
James Brooks brought home a second place finish after posting a time of
4:57:53. Will Belue (5:02:73) and John Shealy (5:09:81) placed fourth
and fifth respectively. In the high jump, Jared Watkins cleared
6'02 ¾ to earn a second place finish, while Justin Bishop cleared 5'08 ¾
to claim fourth place.
