Championship Titles
Kissimmee, FL
- The National Christian College Athletic Association
(NCCAA) conducted its 2008 Division II Soccer Championship
Series at Austin-Tindall Regional Park last week with
Manhattan Christian College (KS) and Baptist Bible College
(PA) winning the Division II National Soccer Titles for
men’s and women’s soccer, respectively.
For the DII National Women’s
Championship, #1 seeded Baptist Bible College, Clarks
Summit, Pennsylvania, blanked their competition on their way
to the national title. On Thursday, a convincing 9-0 win
over #5 seeded Cincinnati Christian University (OH) showed
the Defenders’ dominance. Then Saturday’s 2-0 victory over
#4 Manhattan Christian College (KS) set the stage to play
for the NCCAA National Title on Monday against #2
Southeastern University (FL), who had also held their
opponents scoreless throughout the championship tournament.
In the championship match, while
BBC scored early, both teams showed a strong defense
limiting each other to only four quality shots on goal for
the match. BBC was able to hang on 1-0 for their third
shutout win, earning the NCCAA Division II 2008 National
Women’s Soccer Championship Title.
For the men, #1 seeded Manhattan
Christian College, Manhattan, Kansas, outscored their
opponents 11-1 to earn the DII National Men’s Soccer
Championship. Championship play began on Friday with the
MCC Crusaders easily defeating #8 seeded Johnson Bible
College (TN) 4-0. #5 Philadelphia Biblical University (PA)
scored the only goal against MCC, but it wasn’t enough as
the Crusaders came out on top 4-1 advancing to the national
finals.
Monday’s championship game
matched Manhattan against #3 Providence College (Manitoba,
Canada) who came into the finals having held their opponents
scoreless, but advancing in a penalty kick shootout (0-0 OT,
4-2 PKs) in Round 2 over #2 Southeastern University (FL).
With a Crusader goal midway through the first half of the
championship match, PC had to adjust their play for more
attack. However, MCC clearly controlled the play of the
game going on to score two more goals to blank Providence
3-0 and securing the NCCAA Division II 2008 National Men’s
Soccer Championship Title.
NCCAA Soccer Championship play
will continue at Austin-Tindall Regional Park, 4100 Boggy
Creek Road, Kissimmee, FL, December 3-6, 2008, as Division I
men’s and women’s teams battle for national titles. Tickets
are: Adult - $20 per 3-day pass or $10 per day pass;
Students (ages 12-21) & Seniors (over 60) - $15 per 3-day
pass or $8 per day pass; children 11 years old or younger
are free.
Each participating team will
take part in a pre-tournament community outreach endeavor
organized by the NCCAA and On Goal Soccer. Local outreach
will involve a free youth clinic benefiting the Kissimmee,
St. Cloud and Osceola County youth. The clinic will be held
Wednesday, December 3 from 5:45-6:45 p.m. at Austin-Tindall
Regional Park. The clinics, for ages 6-17, are free. Each
child should bring his/her own ball.
These exciting events will bring
another 300 student-athletes to Central Florida. Partnering
together to assist the NCCAA with this event are the
Kissimmee-St. Cloud Convention & Visitors’ Bureau, the
Central Florida Sports Commission, Seralago Hotel & Suites
Main Gate East,, Greater Osceola United Soccer Club (GOUSC),
BRINE, St. Cloud Youth Soccer, and On Goal Soccer.
Headquartered in Greenville,
South Carolina, the NCCAA (501c3) strives to promote the
gospel of Jesus Christ through its 21 National Championships
and 3 National Invitationals. For more information on the
NCCAA and the Soccer
Championship Series, contact the NCCAA National Office at
