Daily Updates
The daily update includes three days of abbreviated scores and
game summaries submitted by member institutions. Some
sport seasons have not yet begun or the season has completed and
they do not have any information posted at this time.
Check daily for the latest information.
Scores should be emailed to
info@thenccaa.org and
include the full name of both institutions and the final score
at the top of the email. When writing a press release, a
good rule of thumb for the first paragraph is: "who, what, when,
where, result, record".

National Men's Golf Championship
National Women's Invitational
5/14
Malone captured the team title at the
Ohio Independent Championships last Monday and Tuesday at the par-72
Apple Valley Golf Course in Howard, Ohio. The Pioneers finished with a
final tally of 573 (291-282), which was 38 strokes better than
second-place Cedarville University, which posted a score of 611
(312-299). Walsh University and Urbana University rounded out the
standings by finishing third and fourth, respectively, with scores of
627 (313-314) and 642 (318-324). Leading the Pioneers over the
two-day
period was
Jay Hollifield,
who fired a
combined 141 over both rounds, which was good enough for first among the
entire field of golfers. Hollified carded a 70 on the first day and
followed that up with a 71 over the final round.

4/25
Despite a schedule change and unpredictable weather, North Greenville
University's Adam Black was named individual champion of the
Conference Carolinas Tournament while the Crusaders finished 9th overall
as a team. Under normal conditions, the Conference Carolinas
Tournament would be played over a three-day period allowing each player
to play one round per day. However, inclement weather pushed the start
date of the event back a few days and forced the players to participate
in a two-day, three-round tournament that was gruesome from the start.
On Monday, the temperature peaked at 55 degrees with winds gusting up to
40 miles per hour, making for a round first two round. Even with the
rough conditions, Black was able to hold his own and come away with a
first day total of 76-74-150. With the championship in site, Black put
together his best round of the season on the final day of competition,
shooting a 5-under 67 to lead all players and finish with a three-round
total of 217. Other individual scores for the Crusaders were Josh
ONeal, who overcame injury issues to tie for 36th with a score of
76-79-80-235, while Tucker MacDonald finished 44th with a total of
84-77-79-240. Danny Dippel shot 81-81-81-243 to finish alone in 47th and
Sam Goodnight tied for 48th with a two-day total of 80-81-84-245.
As a team, the Crusaders earned a 9th place finish with a total score of
313-311-307-931, 33 strokes behind team champion Coker College who took
home the title with a score of 305-308-285-898. Barton College (899)
fell just one stroke short, while King College (907), Pfeiffer
University (912) and Queens University of Charlotte (914) rounded out
the Top 5 in the team standings.
-----------------------
Arizona Christian University men's golf team,
coached by Bob Day, finished eighth among 11 schools with a
school-record 54-hole total of 918 strokes among its four scoring
golfers at the 2012 Association of Independent Institutions Men’s Golf
Championships at the par 71 Antelope Hills Golf course in Prescott,
Arizona, April 22-23. The Firestorm totaled 305 and 303 strokes
for Monday’s 18-hole rounds, the second and third lowest 18-hole team
totals in its three-year men’s golf history, and added a 310 for
Tuesday’s round. The 54-hole total of 918 strokes is 20 strokes ahead
of the previous record set in 2011. ACU also finished ahead of three
schools in the conference meet for the first time ever. The
University of Victoria (B.C., Canada) successfully defended its 2011
A.I.I. championship by just one stroke against California State
University-San Marcos. Victoria totaled 857 for 54 holes, while CSUSM
scored 858. Victoria overcame a three-stroke disadvantage after day one
to win. University of British Columbia finished third with 867, four
strokes ahead of Thomas University (Ga.) which totaled 871. University
of Houston-Victoria (Tex.) finished fifth with 874, and sixth-place
Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta (Ga.) finished with 908.
State University of New York-Delhi placed seventh with 916, and ACU
scored 918 for eighth place, just two strokes behind.
Six golfers tied for the individual
championship with even par 54-hole totals of 213, and it took four
playoff holes to decide the conference champion. In the end, Victoria’s
Carson Kallis won the event and also scored the tournament’s best
round with a five-under par 66 for Monday’s second 18-hole round. He
also recorded a 75 and a 72. Also involved in the playoff were Adam
Loran from CSU-San Marcos, Conner Kozak from British
Columbia, James Holland from Victoria, Jeremy Demers from
British Columbia, and Matt Luckett from Thomas University (Ga.).
Junior Ryan Eres (Boulder, Colo./Broomfield H.S./Phoenix College)
and sophomore Mason Dacanay (Payson, Ariz./Payson H.S.)
now share the school record for 36 holes. Both totaled 149 strokes for
Monday’s two 18-hole rounds, with Eres scoring 73 and 76, and
Dacanay 76 and 73. Eres added another 76 on Tuesday and
finished with a 54-hole total of 225, ACU’s second-best 54-hole score in
its men’s golf history, and tied for 23rd place among the 55 total
golfers. Dacanay scored a 78 on Tuesday and tied for 29th place
with a 54-hole total of 227, ACU’s fifth-best 54-hole score ever.
Freshman Chris Paulson (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) and
freshmen Ross Mathews (Markle, Ind./Norwell H.S.) tied for 39th
place with 54-hole scores of 236, 23 strokes over par. Paulson
scored rounds of 79, 79 and 78, and shot 77, 81 and 78.
Sophomore Josh Kuhn (Pocatello, Idaho/Century H.S./Treasure
Valley CC (Ore.), ACU’s number five golfer in the meet, tied for 41st
after Monday’s
first rounds of 80 and 75 and Tuesday’s round of 82 for a 54-hole total
of 237, 24 over par.
Arizona Christian University’s three women’s golfers,
coached by Bob Day, finished the season by setting two individual
records at the 2012 Association of Independent Institutions Women’s Golf
Championships at the par 72 Antelope Hills Golf course in Prescott,
Arizona, April 22-23. Junior Carolina Vazquez (Cananea,
Mexico) shot a first-day total of 88 and then set a school record with
an eight-over par round of 80 on the second day. Her two-day, 36-hole
total of 168, 24 over par, gave her a second school record. She wound
up tied for 27th place among the 45 individual golfers. Vazquez
shot the previous best scores of 83 earlier in the 2012 season.
Freshman Mariah Johnson (Morgantown, Ind./Indian Creek H.S.) shot
a personal-best round of 85 on the first day of the tournament and added
an 86 on day two for a two-day, 36-hole total of 171, the second-best
36-hole total in ACU history. Johnson finished tied for 32nd. Freshman
Tesia Swaydan (St. George, Utah/Desert Hills H.S.) established
her personal best with an 86 on day one and shot an 88 on day two for a
personal 36-hole best of 174, the fifth-best 36-hole total in ACU
history, and finished 34th. University of British Columbia
successfully defended its 2011 A.I.I. championship, scoring a 36-hole
total of 601 among its four golfers. California State University-San
Marcos placed second with 612, 11 strokes behind British Columbia, and

The Bethel College track and field teams
competed at the Mid Central Conference Championships at Taylor
University and came away with a very impressive showing. The Lady
Pilots finished second behind Indiana Wesleyan and gained nearly fifty
points from where they were seeded heading into the meet . The men’s
team finished third behind Indiana Wesleyan and Spring Arbor and also
scored more points then they were seeded to despite leading point scorer
Calen Boyd going down with a meet ending injury that prevented him from
running the 200m and taking part in the 4x100m relay. Leading the
way for the Lady Pilots were four event winners that were named All-MCC.
Kaila Stevens won the 400m at 58.02, Sam Etter won the 100m hurdles at
15.24, Trisha Miller won the 10k at 39:32.38, and Kate Carr won the pole

The Malone teams competed at the
Ashland University Alumni Meet last Saturday with a number of Pioneers
earning impressive “top-five” finishes at the non-scoring event. For the
women’s team, four student-athletes broke into the top five in their
events while the men had one competitor earn a top-five mark.
-----------------
Campbellsville University's track and field program doubled its
number of national champions in one weekend, as four Lady Tigers won
championships Friday and Saturday in the National Christian College
Athletic Association (NCCAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships at
Judson University's Memorial Field. The first women's track and
field athlete to claim a national title in Campbellsville University's
athletic history was sophomore Tiana Benjamin of Ft. Knox, Ky. Benjamin
started the day Friday by collecting a school record 3,901 points in the
heptathlon to claim the Lady Tigers' first team points of the meet.
Later in the afternoon, she competed in her final event of the weekend,
winning the javelin national championship with a record-breaking throw
of 39.60 meters. Tiosha Beasley, a junior from Bowling Green, Ky.,
claimed the program's second and fourth national titles. Entering the
weekend as the meet favorite in both the triple jump and long jump
titles, she went on to win both titles with marks of 37 feet, 8.5 inches
and 18 feet, 2.5 inches in the two events, respectively.
Louisville native Nathelie Zetrenne was the third Lady Tiger to win a
national crown. She ran the 100-meter hurdles in less than 15 seconds
for the fourth straight race, setting a school record time of 14.68
seconds. The four national titles helped lead Campbellsville to a
Top 5 team finish in the championship meet. A handful of Top 3 finishes
accompanied the national champions. Myra Rose of Louisville finished
runner-up in the high jump with a program record of 5 feet, 3 inches.
The 4x100 relay team also placed second. The Lady Tigers had third-place
finishes by its 4x400-meter relay team and also Lauren Little of with a
school record of 26.04 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

The Malone men’s and women’s
teams each placed second at the Ohio Independent Championships in North
Canton, Ohio (hosted by Walsh University) last Saturday – the men among
a five-team field and the women among six teams. While there were
numerous first-place finishes and other highlights on the day by Malone
individuals, perhaps the brightest spot of all for the Pioneers was the
accomplishment of women’s student-athlete
Diana Furey
in the 10,000-meter event. Furey, a 52-year-old mother of four,
grandmother of two and first-year runner on the Malone team, finished
fifth among seven runners in a time of 43:03 which shattered her
previous personal best. Incredibly, what made this feat even more
remarkable was that she had completed (yes, completed) the prestigious
Boston Marathon just five days earlier (on Monday) in four hours and
four minutes in very hot conditions on race day.
The Pioneer women had two athletes captured individual events
while one women’s relay team took first place.
Madison Schuler
captured the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:24.0 while
Sara Polatas
won the 10,000 meters in 38:30. In addition, the women’s 4x800-meter
relay team of
Tina Oprean,
Mattison Rankin,
Emily Tomei
and
Becky Neitzel
emerged victorious in a time of 9:58.0.
The men’s team also posted a number of event winners led by double
winners
Malik Felton
and
Caleb Celuch.
Felton won both the 100 meters, in 11.1 seconds, and the 200 meters, in
22.4 seconds, while Celuch captured both the javelin, at 164’8”, and the
triple jump, at 42’ ½”.
Anthony Lombardi
tied for first in the high jump at 6’3”. In addition, the men’s
4x800-meter relay unit of
Billy Latta,
Philip Palmer,
Doug French
and
Matt Hendrix
took first place in a time of 8:30.0.
--------------------
4/23
The
Bethel College Track and Field Program competed at the Grand Valley
State University Invitational on Saturday and hit four NAIA qualifying
marks on the day. Robert Rose was successful twice in hitting NAIA
qualifying marks – in the men’s discus with a school record throw of
159’11” and in the men’s shot put with a throw of 50’10”. In addition,
Bethel’s BJ Vanderzwaag hit the NAIA qualifying mark in the hammer with
a throw of 170’10”, and Bethel’s Kate Carr also hit the NAIA qualifying
mark in the women’s pole vault clearing 11’6”.
Placing high
in other events were Emily Simcox in the high jump clearing 5’3”, good
for 5th place, and Trisha Miller in the women’s 5K with a
time of 18:57.91, good for 6th place.
