2012 All Region Baseball Team Announced

MAYFIELD, Ky. - The All-Region Team for the NCCAA Mid-East Region has been announced for the 2012 season, with six of the region's teams represented on the squad. The team was selected by a vote among the Regional Coaches at the coaches' meeting on Monday night, with the 15 honorees moving on into consideration for the 2012 NCCAA Division I All-American team. Campbellsville University led the way with five players honored on the team, followed by Mid-Continent University with four, and Covenant College and Oakland City University each with two. Bluefield College and Hiwassee College also each placed one player on the team. There were also a total of 16 players honorably mentioned for the team.

Covenant College's James Rollins took home Region Player of the Year honors, as well as a guaranteed spot on the NCCAA All-American Team. Rollins, the All-Region Third Baseman, hit a blistering .471 in 40 games this season, belting 21 doubles, five home runs, and driving in 31 runs. He racked up 110 total bases, slugging .719 on the year, while also drawing 21 walks and posting an on-base percentage of .537. The Region Coach of the Year will be the coach whose team wins the Regional Tournament.

Our region was blessed to have THREE teams receive bids to Nationals:  Campbellsville University, our region champion, enters the national tournament as the #2 seed overall.  King College, our region runners-up, will enter as the #5 seed. Bryan College received an at-large bid and will enter as the #8 seed.  Blessings to all three teams – much success and represent the Mid-East well!

Coaches, I was glad to step forward for the sake of our players and teams who have worked so hard and deserve recognition.  However, if anyone would like to serve in the future please feel free to talk to me.  I will meet with Bob White, our national chair, during the tournament to find out what other duties are entailed.  I do not mind staying on for another year with JP Rader as Vice chair for our region, just so we can have everything covered next year.  I would love to have one or two coaches shadow us, though, so we can train others to serve in this capacity.

Hats off to Covenant College for running a solid tournament with 7 TEAMS.  If you have any suggestions for future tourneys, please let me know so that we can help make next year’s tournament top this one.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Leo
